About the trainer

Hi! ​​I’m Jamaal Chaney,  the head trainer and owner of Chaney Fitness. Truthfully, I’m more than a trainer. I’m a strategist, a former professional athlete, and someone who sees movement as both an art and a science. With a degree in Computer Science and Spanish from Eckerd College, I have competed in and played college and professional baseball, I’ve lived the athlete grind. I know what it means to prepare and execute at the highest level. I've learned how to not only do, but teach others  to be athletic, agile, elite, most importantly, consistent. My journey taught me discipline, resilience, and how to design performance from the inside out, not just chase it.

Now, I use that foundation to help others. My coaching style is equal parts structure and intuition. I am very intentional  with my approach to training and am a continuous student of sports science and sports medicine. With that said, After your first session, you WILL be sore. Not "I stubbed my toe" sore, but more like ‘Wow, I didn’t know I had muscles there’ sore. The kind of sore that makes you walk funny but feel powerful. That first week soreness is your body saying, ‘Hey, we’re doing something new, and it’s working.’ I believe in philosophy I've created and thrive by called "The 3 P's: Potential, Pain, Progress."  Remember, soreness fades, but the confidence you gain? It lasts for a lifetime.

When I started with Jamaal, my lifts had completely plateaued. My bench was stuck at 205, I hadn’t PR’d my squat in over a year, and my deadlift felt inconsistent and risky. Jamaal broke everything down from my bar path to my breathing, bracing, and tempo. He adjusted my programming, added in smart accessories, and gave me cues I still hear in my head every rep.
Within 12 weeks, I hit a 225 bench, 315 squat, and 405 deadlift and cleanly! I’m not just lifting heavier, I’m lifting better and safer. That’s the difference when you train with someone who actually understands strength and knows how to coach it.
